Frequently Asked Question about Hanöki Tools

Drill Bits

How to choose a suitable drill bit?

According to processing needs. For example:

Twist drill bits are used for general drilling(metal, wood, plastic).

Stepped drill bits are used for multiple diameter holes.

Center drill bits are used for precise positioning or machining of center holes.

What are the differences between different drill bit materials?

HSS is suitable for processing soft metals and wood.

HSS-CO:High temperature resistance, suitable for processing stainless steel, alloy steel

Hard alloy (tungsten carbide): Ultra-high hardness, suitable for machining high wear-resistant materials (cast iron/composite materials/PCB).

Why do drill bits break easily when drilling?
  1. Feed speedis too fast.
  2. Thedrill bit is severely worn.
  3. The drill bit is not properly fixed.
  4. Poor chip removal causes jamming
  5. Drill bits too long
What should we do if the hole come out not so round?
  1. Changesuitable drill chuck or change to hydraulic chuck.
  2. Change drill bit.
  3. Reducefeed speed and change to HSS-CO drill bit or Hard alloy drill bit.
How long can a drill bit be used?

It depends on many factors:Material hardness, cutting parameters reasonable or not, cooling sufficient or not(If don’t do cooling, the drill bit life will be reduce 50%).

Can drill bits be re-sharpened?

Yes, can. HSS drill bits can be re-sharpened 2-3 times, but need to be attention:

It is better use professional tool.

After re-sharpened, the coating will be broken, abrasion resistance decreased by approximately 30%.

Can drill bits do customization?

Yes. We can do customization for length, coating, special angles. We promise to finish drawings in 3 days.

Thread Taps

How to choose correct taps?

It depends on the materials and hole shap.

Cutting taps are general taps, suitable for blind and through holes. Especially the spiral fluted tap, it is the best choice for blind holes, because the spiral groove can automatically removes chips, preventing clogging by iron filings.

Forming taps are suitable for chipless machining and are suitable for ductile materials such as aluminum, copper, and low-carbon steel. But when machining blind holes, the aperture depth needs to be reserved by 1.5 times

What are the differences between different taps materials?

HSS is suitable for medium to low hardness materials.
HSS-CO: High temperature resistance, suitable for processing stainless steel and alloy steel.

PM-HSS: Ultra-high wear resistance, Life can be increased by 50%.

How to distinguish between metric, US, and British standard threads?

Mainly look at the marks and thread angle.

Metric thread(M): thread angle 60°(M6 x 1)

US thread(UNC/UNF) : thread angle 60°, Coarse teeth(UNC), Fine teeth(UNF)

British thread(BSP): thread angle 55°,It’s divived into Parallel pipe thread(G)and Taper pipe thread(R)

How to avoid tap breakage during tapping?
  1. The tap size must match the bore diameter.
  2. Reduce the speed.
  3. 100% vertical installation。
  4. Lubricate thoroughly with tapping oil.
How many holes can one tap make?

It depends on material hardness, thread accuracy, cooling method

Can thread taps be re-sharpened?

No.

Can treading taps do customization?

Yes, can, we support custom taps beyond DIN/ANSI/JIS standards, and deliver samples within 7 days.

Milling Cutters

How many types of milling cutters?

End milling, milling t slot cutter, side and face milling cutter, dovetail milling cutter, face milling cutter, thread mill cutter

What is the function of coating?

The coating can improve hardness and heat resistance (up to 800°C), reduce wear, extend service life.

How to choose the right material for milling cutter?

If it needs to be used for high-speed cutting, it is better choose hard alloy also called  tungsten carbide, because this material has high-temperature-resist and wear-resistant

Properties. But if it is used in low-speed cutting, it is better choose HSS material. HSS materials have the advantage of low cost and good toughness.

CNC Carbide Inserts

How to interpret blade model codes?

Taking DNMG150608 as an example:

D: Diamond blade, 35° angle

N: 7° back angle

M: Tolerance class: ±0.08mm thickness and ±0.05mm inscribed circle

G: Screw hole and Chip breaker type

15: Cutting edge length 15mm

06: Blade thickness 6mm

08: The radius of the blade tip arc is 0.8mm

What are the common reasons of blade breakage?
  1. Speed too fast or too slow
  2. Tool holder too long
  3. Insufficient cooling during blade operation

Reamers

How many types of reamers?

According to the operation method, reamers have hand reamers and chucking reamers. According to the structure, reamers are divided into

straight groove reamer, spiral groove reamer and adjustable reamers.

How to choose the diameter of a reamer?

The selection should be based on the target hole size, and must consider about the machining allowance.

  1. Rough reaming allowance:1 to0.3mm
  2. Finereaming allowance: 0.03 to 0.1mm
How to do if the hole too large after reaming?
  1. Reduce allowance, if do fine reaming, only need 0.05mm
  2. Reduce feed, using cutting fluid
  3. Adjusting machine tool spindle runout

Boring tool

What is the difference between boring bar and reamer?

The reamer can only make minute adjustments to the hole diameter (allowance <0.3mm), offering high precision but it is not adjustable.

The boring tool can machine large-mass holes with adjustable diameter and is suitable for all processes from rough boring to fine boring.

How many types of boring tool?

Boring tool system , it consists of boring bar holders , extension boring bar and boring head. Normally speaking, we suggest using double-edged blade for rough boring, single-edged blade for precision boring. This kinds of system also have adjustment boring tool: The precision boring head has a graduated ring, which can be adjusted to a precision of 0.001mm. Boring tool system is used on machining center.

Boring bar with insert is used on the lathe, can not on machining center.

Mini size boring tool can only be used on the hole diameter less then 6mm
